Spanish may be just another subject to take at school, but it can be a tool that you can use to help bridge gaps and communicate ideas that translators fail to do.  Use the language outside the class and challenge yourself to do at least one of the following, at the beginning of each week.

  1. When asked to "press 2" for Spanish, do it and complete your call in Spanish.
  2. Talk to another Spanish-Speaker for 20 minutes at school or in our community.
  3. Go to a Mexican, Spanish or Latin American restaurant and completely order your meal in Spanish.
  4. Teach your family what you learned in Spanish this week/this semester.
  5. Tutor another student taking Spanish for 20 minutes.
  6. Go shopping at a Latin grocery store and complete your transaction in Spanish.
  7. Change your cell phone language to Spanish for an entire week (or more!).​
  8. Change a social media account such as Instagram, SnapChat or Facebook language to Spanish and use it for an entire (or all week!). 
  9. Follow a Latin actor/actress/singer on Twitter and read 20 of their most recent tweets.
  10. Explore one or more Spanish websites – 30 minutes

  1. Watch 2 Spanish-language commercials on YouTube.
  2. Read 3-5 article about famous Latinos on www.peopleenespanol.com
  3. Research a Spanish-speaking country. Find a hotel, activities & sights to see. Create an itinerary for a trip.
  4. Create a Pinterest board related to a Spanish/Latin artist.
  5. Find a Spanish games website. Play for 30 minutes. ​​
  6. Watch tv in Spanish for 30 minutes & summarize.
  7. Watch the Spanish language trailer for a movie you would like to see.
  8. Watch tv with the subtitles on in Spanish for 30 min.
  9. Watch an entire movie in Spanish.
  10. Watch TV on mute for 30 minutes. Narrate what’s happening in Spanish.

  1. Watch a documentary (English or Spanish) about a famous native Spanish-speaker. 
  2. Label 15 or more things in your home you don’t already know the name for. Leave the labels for a week.​
  3. Read a book in Spanish for 30 minutes.
  4. Read three bible chapters in Spanish (www.biblegateway.com).
  5. Read the Spanish directions of 5 things in your house/job (like mac n cheese).
  6. Explore the Spanish-language section of a bookstore. Browse at least 10 books (E- books okay) and note the two that are most interesting to you.
  7. Read a Spanish-language newspaper (online newspaper is okay) for 30 minutes.
  8. Read a Spanish language blog about how the blogger celebrates something.
  9. Compare to one of your own traditional celebration.
  10. Read and memorize a short poem in Spanish.

  1.  Find a Spanish-language recipe online. Make the recipe and try it! 
  2. Attend a religious service in Spanish.
  3. Get together with friends in this or other Spanish classes and speak only in Spanish for 45 minutes.
  4. Listen the radio (talk) in Spanish for 30 minutes.
  5. Listen to the radio (music) in Spanish for 45 minutes.
  6. Find 5 different Hispanic food products and try them. Compare them to products from the US.
  7. Play Trivia Crack or another game in Spanish for 20 minutes.
  8. Research a university in a Spanish- speaking country.
  9. Play www.FreeRice.com in Spanish for 20 minutes.
  10. Tweet in Spanish for a week. 
  11. Call my Google Voice number and tell me how your week is going, in Spanish.  
  12. If you think of another great “Real World” homework, please run it by me in class or via email for approval.  ​
